More Than Just Understanding

Supporting high-functioning Virginia adults who know their patterns but haven't been able to change them, so you can feel it in your body, not just understand it in your head.

More Room for Inner Calm

Steadier, Not Just Clearer

Nervous-system regulation, not just insight.

No Crisis Required

Quiet exhaustion is reason enough to start.

Your Own Pace

Weekly sessions or focused intensives, never rushed.

More Than Ordinary Stress

The Exhaustion of Constant Emotional Strain

You're the one everyone else leans on, the one who has it together. Underneath that, you're running on a nervous system that's been on alert for years, bracing for the next thing even when nothing is currently wrong. You've likely already noticed the pattern, and you can probably explain where it came from. Understanding it hasn't been the hard part.

  • Persistent self-criticism and a harsh inner voice you can't turn off.
  • Guilt that shows up the moment you try to set a boundary.
  • Shutting down or going numb when things start to feel like too much.
  • A body that stays braced even when there's nothing to brace for.
  • The quiet loneliness of feeling unseen, even surrounded by people who care about you.

None of this means something is wrong with you. It means your nervous system learned to protect you a long time ago, and it's still doing its job a little too well.

Virtual Therapist Serving Richmond, VA

A Supportive Therapist, From the Start

We're Attuned Healing Therapy Center, led by Kristine Madu, LCSW. Kristine built this practice around one belief: you don't need a crisis to deserve support, and you don't need to already have the answers before reaching out.

Working with us, you can expect:

  • An integrative approach, trauma-focused, EMDR, somatic, and relational work, matched to where you are rather than a fixed protocol.

  • Pacing set by what your nervous system can actually handle, never rushed.

  • Every protective pattern treated as something that once made sense, not a flaw to fix.

  • A founder who is also in her own process of healing from complex trauma, and understands this from the inside.

  • Support whether you're just starting to name what's going on, or you've already done years of your own work.

Many clients tell us they feel understood before they're told what to change.

Shared Stories, Real Change

Real Client Experiences, Shared With Care

Here's some of what clients have shared with us, in their own words, shared with permission and identifying details removed.

"Working with Kristine helped me through one of the most difficult seasons of my life. She created a space where I felt truly heard, never judged, and supported every step of the way. Her compassionate, thoughtful approach helped me make sense of what I was experiencing and find a path forward. I'm incredibly grateful for the care and guidance she provided."

"I went into the intensive struggling to feel vulnerable or even fully experience my own emotions — I'd shut down before I could open up. Through EMDR and somatic work, I was able to actually process what I was feeling instead of staying in my head about it, and start letting people in and receiving support instead of doing everything alone. I rave about Kristine."

"Using an integrative approach — EMDR, somatic work, and attachment-focused therapy — I've seen a significant reduction in my anxiety, both at work and in my relationship. Beyond just symptom relief, I've gained a real understanding of my own internal world — what parts of me show up in different situations and why, and how to actually take care of them instead of getting stuck in old patterns. This work has changed how I move through both my career and my marriage."

Emotional Support, From Experience

A Path Toward Inner Steadiness

A note from our founder, Kristine Madu, LCSW

I became a therapist because I know what it's like to be scared of people, to fall into shame spirals, to feel alone in a room full of people, and to wear a mask just to get through the day. I'm fighting against the exhaustion of holding all of that alone, the same exhaustion many of the people we work with are fighting against too.

Many clients tell us the shift isn't dramatic at first. It's smaller: a boundary that holds, a moment of shutdown that passes a little faster, a sense of being known by at least one person without having to perform for it. Over time, that adds up to something that feels less like managing your life and more like living it.
