EMDR Therapy
This is where the past stops driving your reactions.
What is EMDR
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based trauma treatment that helps the brain reprocess distressing experiences so they no longer trigger the same emotional or physiological responses.
It works by engaging the brain’s natural processing system through bilateral stimulation while focusing on targeted memories, sensations, or beliefs.
EMDR helps the brain reprocess stored experiences so they can be integrated rather than reactivated. In session, we:
- identify target memories or patterns
- notice associated thoughts, emotions, and sensations
- use bilateral stimulation to support reprocessing
- allow the brain to update how the memory is stored
Structured reprocessing of memory networks, not traditional talk therapy alone.
Benefits of EMDR
As processing occurs, the brain and nervous system can begin to change. The memory remains. The activation changes.
Reduced emotional intensity
Decreased automatic triggers & recations
Shift negative beliefs about self or safety
Create seperation between past & present
EMDR is Helpful For
EMDR is often most effective when
- specific memories feel stuck or intrusive
- emotional reactions feel automatic or out of proportion
- past experiences continue to shape present responses
- you feel triggered even when logically safe
- insight alone has not shifted patterns
What to Expect
Sessions are structured and focused. What you notice internally will shift throughout the work. The experience may feel active and engaged at times. At other times it may feel quieter, like something is shifting in the background.
You are not required to retell everything in detail or stay in any one emotional state for long periods. Most people notice changes in how memories or experiences feel, rather than needing to analyze them.
The goal is for what once felt overwhelming or reactive to become more distant, less charged, and no longer as present in the same way.
Session Structure
EMDR is offered in:
- Standard individual therapy sessions
- Extended 90-minute sessions for deeper processing
- Intensive therapy programs for accelerated work
Each format allows different levels of depth depending on clinical readiness and treatment goals.
